Atiega
It is located in the short, narrow corridor that connects the lands of Lacozmonte with the lands of Salinas and Valdegobía. Nowadays, several families have returned to the locality they abandoned before. The hamlet is organised in two groups.
On the banks of the stream there are two flour mills, one of which belongs to the village of Guinea, and the second has a washing place attached to it. The church of Sta Eulalia is particularly interesting.
The medieval church, which according to the classical denominations can be described as ‘pre-Romanesque’, was replaced in the 16th century by a new building. To do so, the architects demolished most of the original Santa Eulalia, of which only the northern side was used to support the new nave.
The second church underwent a major renovation after a fire between the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. In particular, the damage caused to its structure was repaired and a new bay was added, which significantly increased its length. After a short time, for unknown reasons, the walls of the second and third bays of the nave were raised, which led to the rebuilding of the vaults and the adaptation of the external buttresses to counteract the new thrusts.
