Añana is a Basque municipality belonging to the province of Álava, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, and to the region of Cuadrilla de Añana. The municipality of Añana is located 30 km west of Vitoria.

Salinas de Añana & Atiega
The municipality is made up of two villages:
Atiega (officially also in Basque Atiaga) basically agricultural and livestock farming village, which is divided into two districts.
Salinas de Añana (officially also in Basque Gesaltza Añana), which is its capital and main population centre.
Atiega forms a council governed by an administrative board and endowed with a certain degree of internal autonomy, while Salinas de Añana is administered directly by the municipality. Salinas de Añana is famous for its salt mining, which is now being restored and is a major tourist attraction.
















Festivals
& Events


Patron saint festivities
They are held on the first weekend of October every year, beginning on Friday evening and ending on Monday after a popular meal with the burning of the Prontxio.

Entroje festivities
The Entroje festival celebrates the end of the salt harvest, which began to be held in 2008, trying to remember the main tasks at the end of the harvest.

Salt Day
It is usually celebrated on the first or second weekend of July. It is a day with different cultural and festive activities in Salinas de Añana.
